MAGERWA LTD targets to further develop Rwanda’s capacity in order to become the logistics hub of the Great Lakes Region.
Change in Ownership
MAGERWA LTD was handed to private management in 2011, with the acquisition of 75% of the company’s shares by Singapore based group Portek.
Portek has expertise in Port Equipment Engineering, Port Management, and has an established track record in LEADING RWANDA’S HANDLING, WAREHOUSING AND LOGISTICS SERVICES OVER DECADES undertaking port projects globally. The group currently manages a portfolio of 9 terminals worldwide (including Malta, Latvia, Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia etc.) and serves clients with port engineering services throughout the globe. Since 2011, Portek is a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co Inc., one of the largest Japanese corporation.
Among the other minority shareholders in MAGERWA LTD are Bank of Kigali, BRD, Bollore Africa Logistics, Amifin and Rwanda Link.

MAGERWA LTD provides a number of services including:
Storage and handling of goods in its Gikondo state of the art facilities (1,6 Ha of covered fully secured bonded warehouses). The company also offers a unique network of warehousing/ handling capacity for transit cargo alongside the DRC border (Gisenyi & Cyangugu), and throughout the country (bonded storage facilities at each main border post with Uganda, Tanzania and at the Burundian side).
Air cargo handling is also one of the key business line of MAGERWA. Through its unique storage and handling capacity, the company is providing a high quality service to importers and exporters at Kigali and Kamembe airports. Regular staff training are conducted, so that the highest standard of security is maintained.
MAGERWA has a wide range of handling equipment (from 3 tons forklifts to 60 tons cranes), making it a leading company in the field of handling and heavy-lift equipment rental. The company is able to deliver this equipment anywhere in the country, at a reasonable cost.

Quality standards
MAGERWA LTD has put in place several initiatives to improve quality standards, safety and security, which include CCTV cameras for security on all its facilities, fast advanced ICT applications relating to transaction processing.
