Rwanda will soon open an embassy in Angola to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. 

This was announced yesterday by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo, shortly after the Angolan Minister for External Relations, Georges Rebelo Chikoti, met President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro in Kigali. 

"We are also collaborating with Angola on regional stability. We have discussed how to resolve issues within the great lakes region by working closely to fend off conflict and to ensure that our region remains stable for a long time.” Mushikiwabo said. 

Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is the current chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region. 

"Both Presidents Kagame and dos Santos are committed to the peace of this region and we believe that we can only build a strong region if all heads of state work in the direction of peace, whether through bilateral or multilateral cooperation,” Chikoti said. 

"We will sign agreements to define our cooperation in many areas that we will define with time. In my discussions with President Kagame, it was clear that he holds paramount our region and the need for its stability. All countries in the region must contribute towards the process of peace building.” 

Mushikiwabo added that as a culmination of previous meetings between officials from both countries, three agreements will be signed detailing bilateral and political consultations.
