Hope academy has emerged third at the 3rd Annual Golden Climate International Environmental Olympiad contest in Nairobi, Kenya. The only school from Rwanda that participated in the contest saw all its four representatives scoop bronze medals and cash prizes of 100 US dollars.

The Olympiad is an international competition of students between 11 – 19 years held every year that aims to increase awareness about the environment through various hands-on projects.

"The goal is that students are raised to be more socially responsible individuals and more actively involved in the preservation of the beauty that surrounds us,” Isa Gokturk Yilmaz, the headmaster of Hope Academy, said, adding that it was the first time his school was participating in the competition.

He explained that his students’ project focused on the conservation of runoff rainwater and excessive water use in homes.

Twenty four schools from 26 countries participated in the event.
