WESTERN PROVINCE

KARONGI—A sensitisation workshop for members of the Union Democratique Du Peuple Rwandais (UDPR) party ended over the weekend with a call on members to show discipline during the forthcoming polls.

The two-day workshop attended by UDPR officials in the Western Province focused on the type of conduct expected during the upcoming polls.

Other deliberations included how to cooperate with the ruling party, fighting HIV/Aids among the youth and debate on the East African Community (EAC).

At least one person was picked from each Sector, and two from each of the districts in the province, organisers said.

According to the party Vice President, Perrinar Mukankusi, cooperation of Opposition parties and the government is vital to enhance development of the country.

"Though UDPR is an Opposition party, we should work hand in hand with the ruling party to develop the country and make strong ties with the outside countries,” said Mukankusi.

During the workshop, party members were briefed on the benefits of Rwanda joining EAC and resolved to sensitise the public about the five-member bloc. Rwandans need to work hard, and avoid negative thinking in order to compete with other countries, the members were told.

"We have discussed seven topics and the UDPR members resolved to get solutions to them,” Jeane Yves Bariyanga one of the members said of the workshop.

It should be noted that UDPR is among the parties participating in the forth coming elections.
