MUSANZE—Over 300 mediators commonly known as abunzi, from Musanze district have undergone training in conflicts resolution in order to empower them handle disputes in villages.

During the three-day training held at Muhoza Sector, the participants were also briefed on fighting corruption and the jurisdiction and functioning of the mediation committees.

According to Beatrice Uwamariya, one of the trainers, the workshop also aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge of the organisation, and competence of the committees.

Among the topics highlighted included; the major causes of conflicts, prevention and conflict resolution by encouraging reconciliation before passing judgment.

The participants were asked to always follow up the cases they resolve in order to ensure lasting peace in their communities.

The committee is composed of 12 residents from Cells chosen on the basis of integrity and sounding mediation skills.
