Police committed to sports development – Police chief

THE Rwanda National Police will continue to support the development of sports within the force and the country. The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana has said.

THE Rwanda National Police will continue to support the development of sports within the force and the country. The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana has said.

Gasana made the remarks at a special dinner held in honour of the Police Handball Club after lifting the Labour Day. The function was held at the Police headquarters in Kacyiru on Wednesday.

Police Handball club beat Gicumbi 35-26 in a game played last Sunday to lift the trophy, the seventh since the club was formed in July 2002.

The team chairman, Donald Kabanda and the entire team also handed over the trophy to the IGP.

"We are happy for the achievements you have registered in the past 12 years. As we fight, prevent and investigate crimes, we will also continue to support sports development in the country and continue to partner with the public in various ways,” IGP Gasana said.

Police Handball Club has won the national league twice, were crowned champions of ‘Liberation Cup,’ won the Heroes Day cup twice and the Labour Day cup.  Sports activities are among Police’s community policing initiatives to enhance collaboration and partnership between the Police and the general public.
