A police officer yesterday shot down a man who attempted to vandalise a car in Kigali. Police said the man is a notorious robber, commonly known as K-Swiss.

The incident took place opposite Grand Pension plaza in town. The suspect is now admitted at Kacyiru Police Hospital.

The Central region police Spokesperson, Supt Modeste Mbabazi, said the suspect was shot after he resisted arrest and tried to disarm a police officer.

"He is a notorious thief who has been terrorising city dwellers. The police officer shot at him in self defence,” he said in an interview.

He said the suspect didn’t have identifications on him and had been previously apprehended at Gikondo and detained over similar crimes.

K-Swiss was also taken to Iwawa rehabilitation and training centre, Police added.

Article 106 of the penal code says a person who, in case of an unjustified attack on him/herself or another person, acts in self-defence or in case of defence of another person shall not be criminally liable, except if there is excessive disproportion between the means of defence used and the gravity of the attack.
