Residents of the Northern Province have been urged to be security conscious and embrace good governance practices.

The Minister for Local Government, James Musoni, and Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana made the call while on a three-day tour of the province to mobilise area residents and local leaders on security and good governance.

On Tuesday, they met local leaders, faith-based organisations and residents of Burera and Musanze districts, urging them to play a pivotal role in the country’s development and peace building process.

Minister Musoni assured residents that the government is committed to supporting their development activities in agriculture, education, security and health among others.

The minister hailed Burera District for what it has achieved in terms of development but urged residents to work harder, saying the journey is still long.

 "Burera has a huge development potential but a lot still needs to be done,” he said.

He thanked the district for implementing good governance policies.

"Burera is among the first four districts to  embrace good governance and development programmes,” Musoni said, adding that development cannot be achieved without security.

He urged residents to work closely with the police and other security organs to uphold the country’s security.

Meanwhile, IGP Gasana challenged Burera leaders not to sway residents from developmental issues.

In Remera and Gashaki in Musanze District, the IGP said no one can derail Rwanda’s development and urged residents to report anything that might threaten their safety.

 The Police Chief also urged them to give no room to rumors, criminal acts and anything that might undermine Rwanda’s development.

Burera local leaders and Faith-based organisations committed to upholding Rwandan values and contribute to the country’s development.

 Jean Baptiste Kabaragasa, the Anglican Church of Burera, highlighted the role of the Church in the country’s  development.

He also promised to sensitise  Christians on the need to promote education.

The tour wound up on Wednesday with Minister Musoni and IGP Gasana heading to Gakenke District.
