Kizito Hategekimana, aka Khizz is not a stranger on the music scene. For six years he has been churning out hits.

However, the 25-year-old singer has not held a concert since last year. Famed for songs such as Celebration, Harageze and Uwagukurikira, Khizz is said to be planning a comeback concert in Kigali to prepare the launch of his highly anticipated third studio album.

The Salax awards-winning singer graduated from the University of Rwanda/College of Science and Technology in 2011.

The singer took time off his busy schedule to speak to The New Times. Excerpts... 

What was your dream job when growing up?

I always had a passion for music and have been singing ever since I was a little boy. I realised that I was talented when my singing ability stood out from my peers’ at school.  My friends often requested me to sing for them.

My dream was to become a musician. However i had to pursue education first before chessing my passion for music.

How do you balance work with music?

I work from morning to evening. So I use the rest of the hours to write songs and take my compositions to the studios. However, for big projects like, planning for my concerts and album launches, I do them on the weekends.

What are you working on currently?

I am currently working on my upcoming album. I worked with three local music producers Bernard Chris, Pacento and Pastor P, because I want to give my fans excellent tunes.

Which artistes would you wish to work with? 

They are quite many, but at the moment I wish to work with local Afrosoul singer Mani Martin, Allan Ampaire from Uganda and P-Square of Nigeria.

What challenges do you face as a musician today?

They are so many. Lack of financial support and professional environment.

Single or in a relationships?

I am single and not searching.

Girls or cars?

Damn! I love both but I would definitely choose girls. By that I mean real good girls not the naughty ones! 

Jeans or suits?

I would opt for suits. Suits are stylish and they add class to the person wearing them. 

How do you spend your free time?

By watching movies, listening to music and visiting. 

A romantic dinner or a wild night out?

Of course a romantic dinner! As for a wild night out, I wouldn’t even dare because I am a bit of a shy guy. 

If you flipped a coin and became a woman what changes would you make?

I don’t think there is anything I would change. Instead, I would be happier because women are beautiful and wonderful people.
