The Minister for Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana, has commended the existing Police-public cooperation against crime but called for more efforts to prevent it.

The minister was on Monday presiding over a meeting of the Rwanda National Police ‘High Council’ held at the Force’s headquarters in Kacyiru.

The Police High Council is the RNP supreme organ that brings together commissioners and senior officers heading departments, schools and units, regional and district commanders, among others–and meets once every quarter–to review the security status, implementation of policies and how to deal with policing challenges.

"Our liberation struggle continues as we strive for sustainable development and Police’s role is vital to lay firm foundation towards this noble path,” Minister Harelimana said.

Patriotism

He challenged officers to uphold discipline, Rwandan values and keep-up the spirit of patriotism and engage more in activities that respond to the needs of the public as a proactive force.

The meeting discussed, among others, internal Policing strategies, challenges, international cooperation and development.

The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, urged the officers to put more emphasis on the implementation of the Force’s 10 priorities.

The priority areas include community policing, Force discipline, crime reduction, e-Policing, media in policing, Police welfare, and international cooperation.

IGP Gasana also urged officers to refrain from anything that might tarnish the Force’s image like corruption.
