Police handball club joined ES Kigoma and APR at the top of the league table after beating the latter in a tightly contested game at Kimisagara youth sports centre on Sunday.
All the three teams have nine points but the student’s side, ES Kigoma remain top thanks to their superior goal difference—APR is second, while Police is third.
During yesterday’s much-anticipated clash, APR’s Clever Mukumbiri scored a game high seven goals but it was not enough as the 2012 champions Police held for a close 22-21 win, thanks to Haruna Bizimana’s contribution of six goals.
Antoine Ntabaganyimana head coach of police handball club expressed his satisfaction with his players’ effort in taming the former league winners.
"It’s been a tight game but we have done our best to win, I am happy for the players,” he said shortly after the game.
Elsewhere, the reigning champions Gicumbi moved to fourth position with 8 points after smashing UR-CE 34-19, while Nyakabanda also defeated NUR 24-23.
