Rwanda Chess Federation has announced May 17-18 as the dates for the women World Olympiad qualifiers but the venue is yet to be decided.

Like in the men’s category, five women will be selected to represent Rwanda in this year’s World Chess Olympiad schedules for August 1-15 in Tromso, Norway.

"In an effort to ensure gender sensitivity in this noble game, the world chess body thought it befitting that women also participate in this year’s tournament,” said the Rwanda Chess Federation president Kevin Ganza.

According to Ganza, they expect not more than 10 players to take part in the qualifiers from whom five will be selected to represent the country in Tromso.

He called upon all female chess players of all age-groups to participate in this event.
