The newly elected president of the Rwanda Boxing Association, Jacob Murindangabo has promised to revamp the sport.

Speaking to Saturday Sport, Murindangabo promised to focus on the development of young players to establish a base for excellent future national teams.  "We haven’t competed on a high level, so my first priority will be to develop boxing by building a firm foundation for a better future.

I want to start by interesting young kids across the country to love boxing as a sport,” he said. However, the former Rwanda international boxer said that his main task is to ensure that the Boxing Association gets a legal status to attract sponsors in organising different national competitions in different parts of the country. "We need give the players everything needed to improve their level and also to have more competitions, boxing is an international sport and I feel Rwanda should not be left behind,” he noted. Murindangabo was elected last weekend for a four-year term to replace Cyatwa Ngarambe, who has held the position for four years. He will work alongside vice president Jean Martin Runyinya and second vice president Mike Hussein, while the federation’s treasurer is Henry Mulisa. Charles Muvunyi and Jean Bosco Nduwayezu are advisors.
