Weekend bliss: Five must-attend events in Kigali

The weekend is finally here, and if you're looking for the best places to relax and unwind, The New Times has you covered with a curated list of exciting events happening in Kigali.

1. Basketball playoffs and finals

Kickstart your Friday with some thrilling basketball action. The Rwanda basketball playoffs continue, beginning with the women's basketball match between the Hoops and RP IPRC Huye at 5 pm.

Later, at 7 pm, it's the men's basketball finals as REG BBC takes on APR BBC. APR holds a lead advantage, having won the past three games. If they win this one, they'll sweep REG and claim this year's championship title. All the games take place at the BK Arena, with ticket prices ranging from Rwf 2,000 for students to Rwf 20,000 for courtside seats.

2. Atelier du Vin Fridays

For those who appreciate amapiano and saxophone music, head to Atelier du Vin (Rwandex, ABG Motors) for a night with DJ Marnaud. There's no entrance fee, but be prepared to indulge in delicious food and drinks as dinner will be served starting at 7 pm. The show kicks off at 7 pm and goes on until 2 am.

3. Africa in Colours Festival

The AIC festival, which began on Thursday, September 7, continues this Friday, offering attendees an immersive experience with film screenings, concerts, gaming, Virtual Reality, fashion shows, start-up pitches, immersive technology, and more.

Tickets for the music concert scheduled for Saturday, August 9, are priced at Rwf 20,000, while the fashion show on Friday, August 8, at Hotel Mille Collines, is by invitation only.

The AIC Summit happening on Friday and Saturday is free to enter at AIC Space. On Sunday, August 10, there’s a brunch with DJ sets, pop-up shops, and more, again at AIC Space, with an entrance fee of Rwf 30,000.

4. Messengers Singers concert

On Saturday, September 9, prepare for a spiritual experience as Messengers Singers, with Israel Mbonyi, take the stage for a gospel concert. The concert, titled "Siryo Herezo Live Concert," starts at 5 pm at the Expo Grounds Gikondo, it’ll be a fully live and recorded event.

Tickets are available in three categories: Premium at Rwf 10,000, VIP at Rwf 20,000, and general at Rwf 5,000. Please note that general tickets are already sold out.

5. Ndi Hano Worship Concert

End your weekend on Sunday, September 10, with the Ndi Hano Worship Concert, brought to you by the Evangelical Restoration Church Masoro and Christian Irimbere.

Guest artistes Alexis Dusabe, Arsene Tuyi, and Christophe Ndayishimiye will deliver a soul-stirring performance at CLA Nyarutarama starting at 4 pm. The entrance fee is Rwf 5,000 for regular admission, Rwf 10,000 for VIP, and you also have the option to contribute Rwf 50,000 to sponsor the spread of the Word of God.
