The upgrading of Nyakarambi town Taxi Park in Kirehe District has been completed giving the area a major facelift.

The Rwf400 million facility has parking lots for buses, taxis, trucks, motor cycles, the handicapped and bicycles.

The infrastructure has room for the installation of billboards, pedestrian crossings and speed bumps, line marking, and security lighting.

Protais Murayire, Kirehe District mayor, told The New Times this week that the park provides better facilities for the community and travellers.

 "The park is user-friendly for visitors and regular users alike,” he said.

"We’d like to thank people for their patience and I’m sure people will agree that the finished infrastructure was worth the wait,” he added.

Many town business owners and residents said the new park was a positive development for the district.

"The park has a positive commercial implication. As we endeavor to improve our businesses, a new park is a great addition,” said Claude Ndahayo, a businessman in Nyakarambi town.

Marie Gorethe Mukandutiye, a resident said: "Life in this town keeps getting better. We now have enough electricity, water and now the modern infrastructure.”

Boniface Nirenganya, the Director of Planning in the province, said the park was in line with infrastructure development in the     province.

"The work is part of the government’s plan to develop districts through the establishment of modern infrastructure projects,” he said.
