The second phase of the MTN sponsored beach volleyball tournament ended over the weekend with the pair of Elie Mutabazi and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma dominating once again. The pair also won the first phase held in Kibuiye two weeks ago.

Elie Mutabazi and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma beat Alex Nkuranga and Olivier Akimana in two straight sets. It was a repeat of the first phase final.

In the ladies category, Emilienne Uwineza and Jeannette Niyigena also continued its winning streak to overcome the pair of Aline Mutabazi and Brigitte Mutakumpuhwe in a highly contested game that ended 2-1.

Not even experience could rescue Dr Alexander Lyambabaje and Emmanuel Muyombano as they were sent packing by Jean Paul Mana and Christopher Ndahinyuka on straight sets in the Veterans category.

The duo also won the first phase held in Kibuye. The beach volleyball tournament organized by the local volleyball federation and bankrolled MTN Rwandacell to a tune of Frw20million.

Winners in the different categories walked away with cash prizes ranging from Frw180,000 to Frw40, 000.

The next phase is expected to attract forein participants Uganda, Kenya, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
