Editor, This is a commendable initiative. It is important for our children to know about the Genocide against the Tutsi, what happened, what were the causes and the ideology behind (of course, tailored to the level of understanding in each age category).
Editor,
Refer to the story, "Miss Rwanda pays tribute to children killed in the Genocide” (The New Times, April 23).
This is a commendable initiative. It is important for our children to know about the Genocide against the Tutsi, what happened, what were the causes and the ideology behind (of course, tailored to the level of understanding in each age category).
It is just as important to convey to the youth the country's commitment to making sure the past does not repeat itself. And that involves understanding the full and real story of what took place.
As future leaders of this nation, they will be the ones to tell that story again and again, and carry a vision of truth, peace and reconciliation into the future. And kudos to Colombe Akiwacu for adding her voice to this discourse.
To all naysayers, there's the proof that you can be in a beauty pageant, smart, dynamic and compassionate all at once!
