Young Tigers were crowned champions of this year’s Sulfo cricket league after defeating Indorwa by seven wickets in the final game played at Kicukiro oval on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 201 to win, it looked a mammoth task but the youthful side cruised to victory with a loss of just three wickets.

Indorwa lost early wickets for low runs but Ganshaym (42) and captain Romesh (40) took charge of the innings with a partnership of 110 runs.

The bowling of Eric Dusabemungu (3/20) and André (3/24), Young Tigers kept the Indorwa in check.

In reply, Young Tigers opening partnership of 104 runs from Eric Dusingizimana (58) and Fiston (35) did the damage with Subasishi adding a quick 38 not out including two big sixes and Andre Kayitera (24 not out) rounding up the game.

The league title is Young Tigers’ first success, but having come into existence just over a year ago (they split from the none-achieving Right Guards), the sky should be the limit for a side filled mostly with school boys but also boost of five Rwandan internationals.

All-rounder Kayitera was named the Man-of-series, presented with a voucher worth all products of Sulfo Industries for one year while team mates Dusabemungu won the best bowler award and KCC Ayali Knan took the best batsman award.
