Yesterday, contestants in the fourth season of Bralirwa’s annual music talent competition, Primus Guma Guma Superstar (PGGSS), lit up ten homes of survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Kiberinka village, Rugarama cell, Nyamirambo sector.

The village comprises of 136 houses mainly for the Genocide survivors. Of the 136 houses, 68 homes don’t have electricity.  Bralirwa spent over Rwf1, 340,000 to install electricity in 10 homesteads. 

While talking to the beneficiaries, Eric Senderi introduced his fellow contestants and also comforted the survivors. 

In his message, he called for unity, renewal and hope for Rwanda as a whole. "We shouldn’t cry for help but look around for solutions within ourselves for a better Rwanda,” Senderi said.

Speaking during the event, Freddy Nyangezi, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Bralirwa said Bralirwa seeks to restore hope in the community through Primus Guma Guma.

 "It isn’t just about entertainment and enjoying the Primus brand, but also helping the vulnerable so we can all collectively share the joy with many others,” he explained. 

In an inspirational speech, the Executive Secretary of Nyamirambo sector Alexis Nkurunziza, thanked Bralirwa for "the light of hope” they have circulated in the ten houses and all over the country through Primus Guma Guma talent singing contest.  

Nkurunziza said the electricity will help to address challenges of security and most importantly improve the lives of the beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries thanked Bralirwa for the kind gesture. One of their representatives said, the electricity would improve their security within the village, enable their children to study at night and attain better grades and also reduce their expenses on paraffin that they have been using for lighting.

Throughout the month of April, Bralirwa pledged to join Rwandan in remembering the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and giving back to the survivors as part of their corporate social responsibility. 

The last event of the kind will be Umuganda – community service, in Bumbogo before the Primus Guma Guma Superstar 4 road shows resume on May 3, 2014.
