APR women volleyball club has vowed to reach the semi final round of the Africa CAVB Africa Women Club Championship which gets underway today in Carthage in Tunisia. 

The delegation of eleven players and three officials left Kigali for North Africa last night under the tutelage of head coach Viateur ‘Lado’ Sibomana. 

Speaking to Times Sport, Sibomana said that he expects a tough outing for his team but vowed to fight his way into the last four. 

 "Our aim is to reach the semi final stage but considering our opponents, it will be a tough campaign but possible to achieve,” he said before adding, "We have hope and confidence in the players and I believe they can do better because of experience and exposure gained from previous continental championships.” 

APR women volleyball club earned the continental slot after edging out rivals Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) to win last year’s national volleyball league. 

Tunisia earned the rights to host the Women’s African Club Championship after hosting a similar and successful championship in the men’s category last month. 

The competition that already attracts the biggest number of teams for a continental women’s championship is expected to feature a new record number of participants, up from the 16 teams that took part in the Kenya 2012 edition. 

Kenya Prisons will once again defend the African Club title after winning the past four editions. They will be joined in the campaign by another Kenyan team, Kenya Pipeline. 

The winner of the African title will however be forced to go through a qualification play off against other teams before qualifying for the world Club Championships to be held in Zurich later this year.
