Atraco Fc were officially crowned national league champions for the 2007/08 season after the last matches yesterday. The taxi-men club ended the season four points ahead of runners-up APR.

Jean Marie Ntagwabira’s side ended the campaign season that started nine months ago with a 1-0 win over rivals Kiyovu at Mumena ground.

Andre Lomami scored the only goal of the game watched by among others, Prime Minister Bernard Makuza.

Outgoing champions, APR won 1-0 away to Mukura courtesy of Haruna Niyonzima’s goal and the other giant Rayon Sport also ended the season with a 2-0 win over Kibuye.

Atraco won 18, drew three and lost one of their 22 matches and ended with 57 points, four ahead of nine-time league champions APR, who won 16, drew 5 and lost one of their 22 matches. Rayon ended in third place on 48 points.

Military and Etincelles were relegated to the second division and their places in the topflight division taken by Amagaju and La Jeunesse.

Amagaju won the second division title after beating La Jeuness 1-0 in the final played yesterday at Ferwafa artificial turf in Remera.

Emmanuel Hakizimana scored the all important goals in 77th minute that broke the hearts La Jeunesse players who missed several scoring chances in the first half.

The 2008/09 season is scheduled to start on the weekend of September 19/20/21.
