RENOWNED RWANDAN Afrobeat singer, Chris Eazy, has been ranked by The Native Mag as the fifth in top six best new artistes in Africa who are picking up widespread attention.
Chris Eazy becomes the second Rwandan artiste to be recognised by the magazine which aims at documenting music, culture and style of Africa, after Ish Kevin who was ranked among 12 best rappers in Africa last year.
This year’s list of young artistes to watch in Africa Include Ginius, the colourful afro-fusion Ghanaian singer, South African singer Chlèy, Chriss Eazy, among others.
In the last few years, The Native said that Rwanda’s pop music landscape has been undergoing a renaissance in quality, buoyed by colourful soundscape that echoes influences from the globally, recognised pop sounds of Ghana and Nigeria, but with a distinctly East African and Rwandan flavor as well as an increasingly long line of consummate vocalists with a knack for earworm melodies.
"Chriss Eazy is a singer who fits in every melody,” The Native said, adding that his music is a new era of greatness in Rwandan music.
Reacting to the development, Chris told The New Times that making it to The Native Mag is a move that not only indicates his takeover, but the growth of Rwandan music in general.
He said that such recognitions show how young Rwandan artistes are playing a significant role in the boosting of Rwandan music, urging more players to join the industry.
"This is a huge move for me and my whole team, and it is safe to say that this is just the beginning. We are cooking big things that might even take us far from this,” he said.
About Chris Eazy
Chriss spent the last few years trudging the arduous path of rap superstardom, sharing freestyles and blaring rap singles, until June 2021 when he switched things up with "Fasta”, a raunchy pop song that received widespread attention. It signaled a new era, and before long, he scored a smash hit with "Amashu”.
In late May, Chriss Eazy dropped his biggest song yet, "Inana”, that came with a colourful video and an accompanying set of dance moves that would help its virality. The single solidified his rep as a hit-maker, placing the 21-year old singer on the path of sustained success.
The artiste has been on the road since the release of Inana, performing in different corners of Rwanda as well as outside the country. Chris is also a fashionista who owns a fashion house dubbed ‘Umuana’.
