Duo set for East African Chess Open

NATIONAL chess team players Maxence Murara and Alain Niyibizi will represent Rwanda at the East Africa Chess Championship scheduled for this Easter weekend at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.

 After being invited to take part in the competition, Rwanda Chess Federation picked Murara and Niyibizi for the tournament, according Kevin Ganza.  "We are set for the tournament. We hope to perform better because we have had ample preparations ahead of the tournament,” added Niyibizi.  The team which is expected to fly to Nairobi will be supported by Kasparov Chess Foundation (KCF). The event will have 2 sections, a FIDE Rated one and an Open non-rated one.  Cash prizes ranging from $1000, $700, $500, $300 and $200 have been staked for the winners. Besides Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania will send participants to join hosts Kenya in the battle for honours.
