The East African Business Council (EABC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with business journalists to increase coverage of the region’s integration process. 

The deal, sealed in Arusha, Tanzania last week, will see journalists from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi and Tanzania receive periodic training programmes to sharpen their skills.

Andrew Luzze, the executive director EABC, said that collaboration between the council and the media is needed to fast track integration.

"There is a lot of information about the East African integration process and its challenges that needs to be put across to the public for the benefit of all stakeholders. The only way to do so is working closely with media in a more professional way,” Luzze said during the launch of the media platform.

Felix Mosha, the chairperson EABC reaffirmed the council’s support. "For our regional economies to develop faster, the media must be brought at the forefront,” Mosha said.

Isaac Mwangi, the chairman East African Business Journalists’ Platform, asked his colleagues to exercise the highest level of integrity, accuracy and objectivity while reporting on integration process.
