Dear editor,
In spite of the charges against ANC President Jacob Zuma, he won a bitter campaign against President Thabo Mbeki to become ANC leader.

That is why the charges against him, are normally linked with S.A politics in one way or another.

These charges have continued and actually heightened to some worrying levels. Prompting, the South African government recently to say it is extremely concerned by threats made by some ruling party supporters seeking to make the country ungovernable should Zuma be prosecuted.

Mr Zuma is charged with corruption, money laundering and racketeering in connection with an arms deal.

The unrest may not be ruled out if Zuma is put in jail because he is an influential not only in the local population but also in the army.

But why above all should the SA leadership insist on putting Zuma on trial if his charges are not alarming and his imprisonment is likely to cause chaos?

I am of the opinion that the man should be let free to contest for the top most job in the country, so that ANC is not embroiled in unnecessary conflict and violence.
