RWANDA improved five places to 129 in the April Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking released yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland.

The improvement comes at a time when Amavubi Stars played one international match in March. Eric Nshimiyimana’s team remained in 39th position in Africa with 197 points.

However, Rwanda is still ranked below many Cecafa countries that also made drastic improvements except for regional leaders Uganda who dropped one place to 86th in the world and 18th in Africa.  Ethiopia also dropped one place to 101th in the world and 27th in Africa, while Kenya improved three places to 106th in the world and 29th in Africa. Sudan improved five places to 117th in the world and 33rd in Africa and Tanzania dropped five places to 122nd in the world and 37th in Africa. Burundi is four places better off than Rwanda, in 125th position in the world and 38th in Africa.

There was no change in the top three African places. Cote d’Ivoire remains Africa’s best ranked nation after improving three places, to 21st in the world, followed by Egypt and Algeria. Europe occupies the top three places on the Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking after Portugal climbed into third behind leaders Spain and Germany.

They are followed by four South American sides–Colombia, Uruguay and fierce rivals Argentina and Brazil who share the sixth position. Just 12 points separate this quartet.
