Police in Musanze District have arrested a man suspected of attacking and injuring a Genocide survivor.

The suspect, a taxi conductor in Musanze Taxi Park, reportedly told Kalimba Bigirimana, a driver with Fidelity Transport Agency, to stop ‘bringing his Tutsi face’ in the park.

Superintendent Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Northern Province regional police spokesperson, said the quarrel started when the suspect took passengers out of Bigirimana’s car.

"Police are still investigating the case before handing it over to prosecution. Such words should be avoided both during the commemoration period and in daily life,” said Hitayezu.

The suspect is also accused of injuring the victim using a metallic object.

However, the suspect denied using any abusive language, saying they only fought over passengers.

The Mayor of Musanze District, Winifirde Mpembyemungu, warned residents to desist from genocide ideology.

If found guilty, he could get between five to seven years in prison or pay a fine of between Rwf100, 000 and 1,000,000 or both according to article 136 of the Penal Code.
