THE late Radio Contact FM journalist Jean-Marie Vianney Mutesa has been hailed for his commitment to the profession of journalism.

Mutesa was laid to rest yesterday at Rusororo cemetery in Gasabo District by hundreds of mourners including the journalism fraternity. Mutesa, 47, succumbed to a heart attack on Saturday after prolonged illness.

During the requiem mass at Regina Pacis Church in Remera, Kigali, speaker after speaker talked of  Mutesa  as a person who was hard working, committed and  sought the truth in his line of duty.

"He was a hardworking man and used to work hard especially during these commemoration events where he traveled across the country to commiserate with Genocide survivors,” said the Ibuka vice president Egide Nkuranga.

Assoumani Niyonambaza, a local journalist  said  the media fraternity had lost one of its best who set a good example for upcoming journalists in the country.

Mutesa started his journalism career at Radio Rwanda in the aftermath of  the 1994  Genocide against the Tutsi.

He later joined Isango Star FM based in Kigali. By the time of his death he was working with Contact FM in the news department.

Born and raised in Nyakizu in Southern Province, Mutesa also worked with the Ibuka, the umbrella organisation of the Genocide survivors.

He is survived by a widow and a son.
