Rayon Sports assistant coach Billy Mbusa Kombi has hailed his side after securing three crucial points against tricky side Marines on Saturday.

A 3-2 win over Marines at Umuganda Stadium kept the blues in charge of the Turbo King National Football League table.

The blues remain top of the league standings with 55 points; level with APR. However, the defending champions have a superior goal difference (29) over the army side’s 26.

"I am happy and I am sure everyone in Rayon Sports is happy that we are still top of the table with only three matches left, but we have to stay calm and focus on the remaining matches,” the former Rayon striker told Times Sport on Monday.

He added, "This was an important result for us. We are delighted to be in this position, and I hope we can continue to do well until end of the season. It was a very tough game but the players were excellent.”

His counterpart, Abdul Karim Nduhirabandi ‘Coka’ said, "We are very disappointed because we got back in the game after scoring two goals in second half but we ended up losing, but this is football.”

Rayon were 2-0 up in the first half through Cedric Amissi and Arafat Serugendo strikes, but Marines recovered strongly and netted twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half through Ismail Gikamba and Haruna Muvunyi and the skipper Fuadi Ndayisenga made no mistake to convert a penalty to give Rayon all three points.

APR stayed on Rayon heels with a 2-0 win over SC Kiyovu at Kigali regional stadium thanks to Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza and Micheal Ndahinduka goals. On Sunday, AS Kigali beat Etincelles 2-1 to jump into third position.
