SC KIYOVU president Jean-Pierre Kayumba has denied media reports that the club has not paid players and technical staff salaries for five months.

It was reported in some local media outlets recently that Kiyovu players and technical staff have spent five months without salary wages, but Kayumba refuted it, insisting that the club owes the players wages for only one and half months 

But a member of the coaching staff, who preferred not to be mentioned because of his position, told Sunday Times midweek that they have not been paid since December last year.

However, when contacted, Kayumba said, "Those are lies because we have been consistent in paying salaries for our players and staff members; so whoever is saying that we have not paid them for five month is lying.”

"It is just one and half months that we still have to cleared, and we plan to clear this month,”  said Kayumba, who took over as SC Kiyovu boss from Norbert Sendege at the start of this season.

Late last year, Nyarugenge District agreed to inject Rwf5 million per month to help the club run its affairs for the 2013/14 season. The agreement was to see the district dispatch Rwf50 million for a period of ten months.

SC Kiyovu head coach Gilbert Yaoundé Kanyankore has consistently attributed the team poor results on the club’s financial troubles.

The ‘Green Baggies’ which is one of the oldest football clubs in Rwanda, has not won the league title since 1993 and they are currently in sixth position with 38 points and already out of this season’s race with three rounds of matches left.
