Jewellery has been around probably as long as civilization has been around if not longer. We wear various accessories for varied reasons; because it was a gift, because we are engaged, because it was passed down to us from our loved ones, because everyone is wearing them and we want to look as trendy, or just for the heck of it.
Just as the varying materials, they are moulded from, their value price wise differs though at times, they are not valued by how much we bought them for but what they mean to us.
No matter your preference, it is important to take on a few tips about donning jewellery to avoid ‘wearing it all’.
It is okay for you to own multiple accessories, numerous bracelets and rings but have some modesty to rock one at a time. Having 14 bracelets and 3 rings on each arm and yet you are not an artiste is a little bit too distracting if you want everyone to take you seriously.
Tone it down when your clothes have a lot going on.
Whatever accessories you choose to wear, avoid mixing colours and brands that don’t match to avoid ruining your looks. For example, if you choose African accessories, do not be quick to throw in metals or plastic jewellery on it.
It is also advisable to find out which between gold and silver floats your boat; light skinned people look gorgeous with gold accessories, while those with a darker complexion do justice to silver.
Consider the vibe you’re going for.
Size and age matter when choosing a jewellery. A grown up man hoping to impress ladies by wearing a necklace or chain, huge enough to tug a truck will instead look ridiculous, but it’s normal for a teenager to pull out such a trend.
For most accessories, there is a certain majesty and classiness in simplicity and modesty. As you grow older, it is probably a good idea to tone down the number and the brightness of most of the accessories unless you have a music career.
As for earrings and ear studs, if you really have to wear one considering that Kigali is still yet to add that to what it allows corporate wise, a small stud for a corporate look would be advisable if you do not want people putting their wallets safely when you are around them.
Caution should, however, be exercised when buying accessories made from metal if you react to them, make sure that they are pure metals and not knock offs. Pricing would be a good way to tell if they are real.
