TodayAS Kigali vs Gicumbi - 3:30pm

After exiting the Caf Confederation Cup, AS Kigali will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Gicumbi in the domestic league this afternoon at the Kigali regional stadium.

Today’s game will be the first of two matches that the Peace Cup holders have in hand. The other one is against Mukura.

Andre Casa Mbungo’s side lost 4-1 on aggregate against Moroccan side Difaa El Jadida in the 2014 Africa Confederation Cup second round.

AS Kigali go into today’s encounter in fourth position with 38 points, three behind third-placed Police FC, while their Thursday opponents are in 11th position with 18 points, three off the relegation zone.

Rayon Sports and APR lead the table with 52 points but the former have a better goal difference.

"We are still disappointed with the failure to progress further in the Caf Confederation Cup, but we want to forget that and focus on getting maximum points tomorrow. We need to continue our good form in the league,” Casa Mbungo told Times Sport yesterday.

"Our run in the continental competition may be over but we have enjoyed every moment and I hope we can do well in local competition so that we return to the African stage next year,” he added.

While the former Sec Academy coach will be gunning for maximum points, his counterpart Jean Baptist Kayiranga and his struggling Gicumbi FC have other ideas as they look to get out of the relegation dogfight.

"Our target is to get more points onboard, which will save our season, we have struggled for consistency and are going to face a tough team but we have to be ready,” admitted the former Rayon Sports and SC Kiyovu coach, Kayiranga.

AS Kigali won the corresponding fixture 1-0 at Gicumbi in October last year and will be hoping to complete a double for their 12th league win of the season.
