POLICE FOOTBALL CLUB climbed to third position of the Turbo King National Football League after snatching a 2-0 win over SC Kiyovu yesterday at Kigali Regional Stadium.

Striker Jerome Sina scored a 37th minute volley before defender Gabriel Mugabo slotted the second ball three minutes later with a convincing header to hand Coach Sam Ssimbwa maximum points.

Despite pressing forward in the second half, Coach Gilbert Kanyankole’s outfit failed to find the net as goalie Alexis Ganza played an instrumental role in the stands for Police FC.

Kanyankole lost substitute Blaise Itangishyaka who had replaced Pekayake Tuyisenge to a hamstring injury as he boosted his side in search for goals.

At the end of the game Innocent Habyarimana received a red card for elbowing Ali Musa Sova, but it never affected the Cops who had already sealed a win.

Police hold grip on third spot with 41 points, four better than SC Kiyovu, in 22 matches played.

Elsewhere, relegation-battling side Esperance defeated Espoir 2-1 at Mumena turf to amass 15 points but still remain in the danger zone as they only moved a place ahead of Amagaju in 13th position.

Coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga’s Gicumbi was forced to a goalless draw by visitors Amagaju in Gicumbi. Gicumbi FC stands tenth with 18 points while Amagaju are the root of the standings with 14 points.
