FORMER RWANDAN international defender Mbuyu Twite has been linked with a big-money transfer from Young African to rivals Azam FC.

Mbuyu joined Yanga from Rwandan side APR FC in August 2012 and his current contract is due to run out on April 20, but reports from Tanzania indicate that he is unlikely to extend it, a situation that has seen league leader Azam dangle a corrot for Mbuyu.

It is reported that Azam is willing to splash $50,000 for the signature of the DR Congo-born versatile defender to boost their squad ahead of next year’s African competitions.

Young Africans chairman Abdallah Bin KLEB was quoted in the Tanzania media as saying, "Right now, our focus is on the league. We want to win the league title, so we don’t want players to get distracted by contract talks.”

"We shall sit down with players whose contracts are running out to negotiate new deals, but for now, let’s focus on the remaining matches. We have made it clear that we shall start new contract talks at the end of the season, and we are sticking to that stance,” he added.

Azam are leading the Tanzanian league table with 44 points, one ahead of champions Young Africans with six games remaining.
