ESPERANCE FC’s head coach Camalade Banamwana has set his players a daunting target to win five of their remaining six Turbo King National Football League matches to save their season.

The Kimisagara-based side, which is playing in the top flight division for the first time after winning last season’s second division title, is bottom of the table and highly unlikely to survive the drop. Espérance have 12 points from 20 matches.

However, under pressure Banamwana, who is yet to serve his eight match ban handed to him by Ferwafa’s disciplinary commission under the former administration, remains optimistic.

"We are still in the league but it will be hard to be here next season unless we can win five of our remaining six games. We want to keep fighting for every point until it is mathematically impossible to survive. We want to stay in this league and I believe it is still possible.” 

The former Bugesera FC coach pointed out that the likes of Marines, AS Muhanga and Gicumbi can still be dragged into the relegation dogfight and anything can happen between now and end of the season in early May.

Espérance, who have not moved out of the bottom two all season, take on seventh-placed Espoir FC this afternoon at Mumena stadium.

After today, they will face AS Kigali before coming up against fellow strugglers AS Muhanga, Marines, Rayon Sports and Gicumbi on the last day of the season.
