The national carrier, RwandAir, will tomorrow launch the first flight to Douala, Cameron as it widens its reach in the West African region, the airline has announced in a statement.

According to the statement issued yesterday, the airline will be flying  to Douala five times  a week using the Bombardier CRJ-900NG aircraft.

John Mirenge, the RwandAir chief executive officer, said the new route will be the sixteenth for the airline. "This is an impressive growth by any standards,” he noted.

RwandAir serves one domestic destination, but plies many regional cities, including Nairobi, Entebbe, Mombasa, Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro. 

The airline also flies to Johannesburg in South Africa, Dubai, Lagos, Nigeria, Accra, Ghana, Juba in South Sudan, Libreville in Gabon and Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo. It is also planning to start flights to  Abidjan in Ivory Coast  before the end of this year.

RwandAir hopes to fly to the Middle East, Asia and other European cities in the near future, according to Mirenge.

Last month, the airline acquired a new Bombardier Dual-Class Q400 NextGen airliner from Canada in a bid to boost capacity and expand its network.
