A local entrepreneur has opened up a Frw1.6 billion supermarket in Kigali city centre.

Simba Supermarket opened on Friday at Centenary House in the city centre.

At the opening ceremony, Gérard Nkusi Mukubu, the Director for Taxpayer Services in Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), said this was an outstanding business that will greatly impact the Rwandan economy through provision of revenues and employment.

On behalf of RRA, he pledged support and cooperation with the supermarket "Our role as RRA is building and strengthening business partnerships with the business community, we are ready to work with Samba Supermarket” said Nkusi

He emphasised that such entrepreneurs are crucial to the country’s ambitions and can also attract more investors in the private sector.     

Charles Gasana, the Simba Supermarket proprietor, said the target is to bring about economic prosperity through customer oriented services at affordable rates.

He explained that government has created a very conducive environment for Rwandans and foreign investors, where small and large investors can play almost equally.

Gasana further revealed that this has attracted many who want to buy shares in the newly established supermarket.

The supermarket stocks electronics, foodstuffs, kitchen ware, gym equipment, and furniture. It also includes a bakery and a snack bar.

According to Justin Mukangarambe the supermarket manager, Simba Supermarket has employed 150 people and more will be added.
