The report about Rwanda being a top destination for retailers attracted a lot of interest in the country (going by tweets and comments about it).
But there is need to tread carefully as this trend could spell disaster for the economy and local businesses. First of all, to keep consuming imports from around the world without producing anything both for our own use first, and eventually for export, is a direct way to perpetual enslavement and people’s impoverishment.
The problem is not for Rwanda alone; consumerism is putting many countries economies at risk as presented in the distributorship of foreign retail chain stores.
