THE FIRST road show of Primus Guma Guma SuperStar season four, (PGGSS 4) gave residents of Rusizi town in the Western Province something to cheer about as the 10 finalists of the Bralirwa-sponsored annual music show kicked off their countrywide tour on Saturday.

It was excitement and jubilations as the residents welcomed the buses carrying the artistes and journalists to the usually calm town on the shores of Lake Kivu.

The chilly Saturday afternoon didn’t deter the residents who slowly snaked their way up the hill to Rusizi stadium under a light drizzle to attend the long awaited show.

As usual, Primus Guma Guma co-hosts Anita and Tino warmed up the audience with hilarious jokes while the DJ pumped up the music to set the stage for electric performances on the evening.

The artistes then were required to take part in a draw to determine the order in which they would perform, with Bruce Melody, Young Grace, Diana Teta, Active, EricSenderi, Christopher, Jules Sentore, Dream Boys, Am-G The Black and Jay Polly performing in that order.

At 2p.m as planned, the show kicked off with the lucky revelers taking part in a fun-filled challenge to walk away with Primus goodies, right before the artistes could hit the stage.

Bruce Melody was the first to hit the stage, performing Indorerwamo off his latest album Ndumiwe, before performing Uzandabure, one of his first songs that made him a household name. His RnB/rock fused melodies got the audience moving. He wound up with ‘Ndumiwe’.

Young Grace was the second to perform, hitting the stage with Ikimenyane. At this point, the stadium was filling up as the drizzle subsided. She performed her single ‘Hip-hop’ before giving way for Teta, the other female singer in the competition.

The svelte singer proved that she is slowly winning over the hearts of fans after her surprise entry. She performed her latest ‘Kata’ before winding up with Canga Ikarita. She was backed by female dancers.

After Teta, it was Active’s turn to mesmerise the crowd, the trio arriving on stage exuding the traditional Kinyarwanda dance, accompanying their single Ayaya.

They then went ahead and performed Udukoryo twinshi, a song which they accompanied with exhilarating dance moves which got the crowd on their feet. They concluded a good performance with their latest track, Pole.

It was about time for the king of surprises Senderi, aka International Hit, to up the ante, by arriving on stage in an eccentric style. He stunned the crowd when he showed up in a huge Primus beer container with a drink in hand before delivering a wonderful performance.

He performed Nsomyaho,Cash Zarabonetse and his latest Umuvuduko. To crown it, the Jalousie singer gave away his chain necklace to a lucky fan.

Christopher came on next, belting out his singles Ndabyemeye and Uwomunsi. The people of Rusizi helped the RnB singer, who is taking part in the show for the second time, by singing along.

In came first timer Jules Sentore, who performed Dutaramane and Udatsikira, which saw the audience go wild.

And, a few minutes past 4p.m, Dream Boys hit the stage with their single Tubaye Umwe, following it with Ungaraguza agati before going back in time with Nshatse Inshuti.

The duo, in Guma Guma for the fourth time, concluded a good performance with Urare Aharyana.

Amag the Black, in the show for the first time, proved that he is a force to reckon with, with the crowd in Rusizi treating him to a thunderous welcome. He performed Uruhinja, Care and Agakayi

To crown a wonderful evening, it was fittingly Jay Polly to wind up the show with his performance of Vuza Ingoma, Ikosora, Kumusenyi before putting the icing on the cake with Deux-foi-Deux. The rapper proved that he will be the man to beat this season having previously missed out narrowly.

It was a wonderful evening to kick off PGGSS 4. The next roadshow will take place in Nyamagabe this coming Saturday.
