Rwanda were Monday afternoon handed a 3-0 thrashing by Group D rivals Morocco in the opening match of the 2023 men’s African Volleyball Championship which is underway in Cairo, Egypt.
The 24th edition of the biennial tournament kicked off on Sunday, September 3, and will run through September 13.

Morocco put up a dominant display against Paulo De Tarso’s men, outplaying them in three straight sets 25-17, 25-18 and 26-24 to take home the victory in the game that lasted one hour and ten minutes.
Rwanda will face Gambia next on Tuesday, September 5, before winding up their group stages against Senegal.
The East African nation is targeting a place in the second round (semifinals), something that the country has previously achieved in the U19s, U21s, and All Africa Games.
