THE Rwanda Movie awards 2014 was a fashion feast, with trendy outfits and glamorous gowns swishing on the red carpet at Kigali Serena Hotel on Sunday.

Big names in the industry were welcomed amidst deafening applause and ululations from fans as they hit the red carpet.

The evening featured well-deserved wins across the board. An array of awards were up for grabs, but Igishimisha Umugabo ultimately took home the best accolade for the Best Movie of the Year.  Kanyambo was voted the Best Short Movie and Guhindka Mushya was the Best Documentary.

Vianney Kayumba bagged the Best Actor Award, while Fabiola Mukashema took home the Best Actress Award.

Meanwhile, Muniru Habiyakare and Rata Ndahiro took home Best Director and Best Actor (action movies), respectively.

By the end of the show, it was all smiles for the winning actors and actresses plus their fans who posed for pictures and exchanged pleasantries.

Alexia Mupende, one of the fans was delighted and happy that her friend Liane Umuhoza, scooped an award for the Best Actress.

The event started late in contrast to the slated time of 5pm. However, to calm down the audience whose patience was running out, co-hosts Arthur Nkusi aka Rutura and Tijara Kabendera took to the stage and lightened up the crowd through eccentric and comical utterances that cracked up everyone in the audience.

In between jokes, Nkusi showed the audience he knew what they really wanted, as he treated them to a full package of his comedy.

In attendance were Colombe Akiwacu- Miss Rwanda 2014, Carmen Akineza- the first runner-up and Marlene Umutoniwase, second runner-up; a trio that equally elated the audience.

Edward Bamporiki, an activist, filmmaker and writer, had a few insightful remarks about how the industry has developed overtime.

He said that the movies tell a story about Rwanda and in a way help to preserve, grow and build the Rwandan culture and heritage. The event ended at 11pm.
