Members of the Rwanda Women Parliamentarians Forum (FFRP) members have completed a two-day training in gender responsive planning and budgeting.

The training, which took place in Musanze District last weekend, was organised by the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion in partnership with FFRP.

Speaking at the event, Henriette Umulisa, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, said the training equipped participants with more skills on gender responsive planning and budgeting.

"We all know that the parliamentary roles of oversight and budget approval are critical for gender mainstreaming and implementation,” Umulisa said.

She added that gender responsive budgeting links gender equality commitments to financial resource allocation.

"Gender responsive budgeting is important for holding governments accountable for their commitments to gender equality and women’s rights,” Umulisa said.

"With gender responsive planning and budgeting continuing to dorminate discussions at all levels, there is need to institutionalise gender equality in mainstream planning and budgeting in key organs like parliament,” she added.

MP Ignatienne Nyirarukundo, the Chairperson of FFRP, said the workshop was significant, as it will help them ensure that gender-related needs are met.

She said the workshop boosted their knowledge in the field of gender responsive planning and budgeting.

The Director General of Rwanda Management Institute (Riam), Wellars Gasamagera, said it was important to equip women legislators with skills so that their crucial responsibilities are implemented effectively.

"Skills are important for you as you plan to prioritise gender planning and budgeting. We  hope the workshop will be of great significance to you,” said Gasamagera.
