This year’s FIBA- Zone V basketball championships will be held in June in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa, Sunday Sport has learnt.

Rwanda will be represented by league champions Espoir, who battle it out against teams from Burundi, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The Nyamirambo-based side has won the Rwandan league in the last two consecutive seasons with an unbeaten record.

However, they failed to defend the Zone V club championships crown they won in 2012 after losing to Urunani of Burundi in last year’s final held in Bujumbura.

"We are determined to win this tournament this time, we were disappointed to lose in the final last year, so we need to make up for it,” Espoir’s head coach Jean Bahufite said on Friday. He noted, "First we want to do better in the league and be at our best going into the Zone V championships.”
