Rwandan Peacekeepers serving under United Nations African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Thursday conducted, a long range patrol to Fassi Village, 75 Km north of Zalingei in Darfur (Sudan).

According to Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) peacekeepers (Rwanbatt38) on the ground, the patrol was aimed at assessing an emergency aid for the new Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who escaped from fresh fighting between armed groups and Government of Sudan Armed Forces in Saraf Omra.

The new established IDPs camp at Fassi, Saraf Omra (North Darfur) accommodates about 5,000 families. The patrol team interacted with the Umda (chief of many Sheikhs) Hamdan Reama, 59, Sheikh Isaak Yahya Adam (36) and Sheikh Adam Zourgan, leaders of the camp.

The local leaders reported to Rwandan forces that the security situation in Fassi village was relatively calm but added that the IDPs were in much need of food, portable water, shelter and medical facilities.

"Though, we appreciate the way you’re supporting us in many things, we are still in dire need of life saving support”, said Umda Reama.

Rwanbatt38 deployed in Sector Central ZALINGEI is among the four RDF battalions serving in UNAMID.
