AS Kigali will be looking to win against AS Muhanga when the two sides meet this afternoon in a rescheduled Turbo King national football league match at Stade de Muhanga.
Today’s game will be the first of two league matches that Rwanda’s representatives in the Africa Confederation Cup have in hand, the other one is against Gicumbi FC.
AS Muhanga are hovering just above the relegation zone and they will have their hands full against AS Kigali side still fresh from progressing to second round of Africa’s second biggest club competition after eliminating Sudanese side Al Ahly-Shendi.
Andre Gasambungo’s side goes into today’s clash in fifth position with 34 points, level with fourth-placed Police FC and one point behind Espoir in third place.
APR lead the table with 46 points, three better than the second-placed and defending champions Rayon Sports.
"The players are still feeling somehow tired after the flight from Khartoum, but we need to win, so we have to forget about fatigue and focus on getting the three points to close the gap on the leaders,” said Gasambungo.
While the former Sec Academy head coach will be gunning for maximum points, his counterpart Ali Bizimungu and his struggling AS Muhanga could have other ideas as they look to get out of the bottom four for the first time this season.
"We managed to get three points over the weekend (against Amagaju) and our aim is to continue to try and put more points on board to save our season,” Bizimungu noted.
AS Kigali won the corresponding fixture 1-0 at Stade de Kigali in October last year and will be hoping to complete a double for their 11th league win of the season, which would take them into third place.
