Microsoft and the Ministry of Education yesterday signed an agreement aimed at transforming learning, innovation and  skills development among students and educators in Rwanda. Dubbed "Education Transformation Agreement”, the agreement will be implemented through Microsoft’s Partners in Learning initiative. 

The two parties recognise the need to improve access to and use of information and communications technology (ICT) in primary, secondary, tertiary and vocational education as well as the value of technology in schools.

"The Ministry of Education is open to embracing new approaches to teaching and learning to further education quality and the use of technology is at the centre of these approaches," said Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister for Education, after signing the agreement in Kigali. "I believe that Education Transformation Agreement will enhance our capacity to address most issues in education quality.”

According to the agreement, the Ministry of Education will engage stakeholders for effective ICT in education strategies and in addition to Partners in Learning, while Microsoft will spearhead these strategies through various projects such as helping the Government to provide access to students through programmes and services like Office 365, among others.
