Today: Second leg
Al Ahly Shendi vs AS Kigali (0-1)
AS Kigali head coach Andre Gasambungo is optimistic his team can overcome Sudanese side Al Ahly Shendi in the Caf Confederation Cup when the two sides meet in the first round second leg in Khartoum this evening.
Talking to Times Sport before the team departed for Sudan on Tuesday, Gasambungo said they are going there mindful of the threat posed by their opponents but without necessarily giving them too much respect.
"We can’t afford to fear or even give too much respect to anyone in the competition, I think we are not here by mistake but because we have worked hard for it,” he confidently said.
Gasambungo believes that AS Kigali, who won the first leg 1-0 last weekend, have enough firepower to snatch an away victory, but they will take any result that takes them to the next round.
He said, "The players are mentally and physically in good shape and determined to come back with a positive result. We played well in Kigali and got what we wanted and we are going to play away with the same mentality.”
To reach the 1/8th round, Rwanda’s 2013 Peace Cup winners need a draw or at worst a 2-1 loss in Sudan.
