Beauty of Rwanda founder, Salha L Kaitesi, is a Rwandan entrepreneur based in the UK.  She has created a platform for her fellow country-women, survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, to sell their handcrafts on an international market. It’s through the organisation’s website that Kaitesi markets and sells Rwandan handcrafts. Society Magazine’s Rachel Garuka spoke to her about her fashion sense.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

Elegant and feminine. I love to dress down too. A bit too much at times.  Skinny jeans and leggings are must haves.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

Shoes.

Where do you shop for clothes?

Mostly in Zara, H&M and some independent boutiques. The latter always sell unique stuff that you won’t find in your daily high street shops.

What do you consider when buying  clothes?

The look, comfort and price.

What is your favourite fashion accessory?

A watch. I feel naked and lost without one.

What is your favourite clothing item on a guy?

Suits and jeans. Unfortunately not all men look good in them.

What’s your favourite scent?

At the moment it’s Ralph by Ralph Lauren. It’s floral and fruity.

Any fashion advice?

If you don’t feel comfortable in it then don’t wear it. Know your body. Everything you wear should be proportional to your body and always dress appropriately.  Be confident with your body. It’s sexy.

If you don’t feel comfortable in it then don’t wear it.  Invest in skinny jeans.

Heels are worth it but flats are great too. Their simplicity can be super chic.
