It turns out that men are actually happier after marriage than they ever would have been had they stayed single, according to researchers at Michigan State University.
The study looked at 1,366 people who weren’t married before participating in the survey, got married at some point during, and stayed married. Researchers compared the subjects to a control group that was demographically alike in every way other than being married.
The results: "People, on average, aren’t happier following marriage than they were before marriage, but they are happier than they would have been if they stayed single,” says Stevie C. Y. Yap, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Psychology at MSU and one of the study authors.
On that stressful day when you feel like the whole world is crumbling down, there is nothing more soothing than knowing that there is one person you can call to help you feel better or perhaps get home to a well cooked dinner that will salvage what is left of your miserable day. On the other hand, the single dude will run to the bar to quench his thirst and forget his problems.
Want to live a long life? Get married. These aren’t my words, but from different studies, married people, particularly married men, live significantly longer than their single friends.
Doctors at Harvard tossed some more data on the pile last month, showing that married patients were more likely to identify cancer in its early stages and less likely to die from the disease than their unmarried peers.
There is this friend of mine who used to be as skinny as I am today but when the man got married, everything changed. This dude looks good and his clothes all fit him well. I would kill to be him right now. Also, his wife is his designer and she buys him really great stuff. I cannot help but envy the man.
And the dude is not making it any easier. Once, we got stuck at work during our lunch hour and guess who the first to eat was? The married dude had his wife bring him sweet smelling home cooked food while we sat there cursing our singlehood.
Marriage changes people’s lives, especially men. A man that used to be idle and probably even disorderly will most likely turn into a responsible law abiding individual – thanks to the wonder called a woman!
All these great things happen when you have someone by your side – a companion, a friend and the love of your life. That is how it was meant to be and that is how it should always be.
