DAYS UP! Bosco Niyotwizera , 28 was arrested when he tried to con passengers of their hard earned money.

A man who is notorious for taking passengers money by false pretence was arrested recently and detained at Remera Police station.

The conman, identified as Bosco Niyotwizera , 28, was arrested by a policeman who was on guard at the Ministry of Justice in Kimihurura.

"He was trying to steal passengers’ money at Gishushu taxi stage,” the policeman, who arrested the conman who was running from the crime scene, said.

He was detected after he tried to steal a 16 year-old girl’s money at Gishushu taxi stage.

"He first told us he was a taxi conductor (the one who collects taxi fares). Then he alarmed us that there was a special patrol taking people’s property and offered to keep ours in his vehicle,” Annet Umurisa (not real names) said.

Annet and her younger sister were traveling to Muhanga District in the Southern Province.

She said that after threatening them, they decided to give him Frw10,000 which was meant for their transport.

According to the 16 year old, Niyotwizera put the money in an envelope and stood alongside the taxi before he started running away, only to be arrested at the Justice Ministry’s main entrance.

"This man is an imposter. He has been doing this for a while,” an eye witness said.

When asked, Niyotwizera confessed he was guilty of the offence and said it was the source of his daily bread.

"I have been doing this for the last three years. But I will never do it again,” he pleaded at the Ministry’s compound.

The National Police has always called on the public to be aware of such conmen in the city.
